MS Dhoni set to achieve THIS historic feat in IPL 2025 – Sports News
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) icon MS Dhoni is all set to make his much-awaited return to competitive cricket in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Dhoni, who now plays only in the IPL, will return to the field after a 10-month gap when CSK faces Mumbai Indians on March 23.
Dhoni Nears Historic 400-T20 Milestone
During IPL 2025, Dhoni will achieve a unique feat that no other cricketer has accomplished. The former India captain is set to become the first player to feature in 400 T20s, 350 ODIs, and 50 Test matches. Having already played 350 ODIs and 90 Tests, he is currently on 391 T20 caps and needs just nine more appearances to reach this milestone.
CSK’s fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 25 is expected to be Dhoni’s 400th T20 match, making the achievement even more special as it will take place in front of his home crowd.
Other Indian Players with 400+ T20 Caps
While several players have played over 400 T20s, none have matched Dhoni’s all-format longevity. Among Indian cricketers, only Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik have crossed the 400-T20 mark. Rohit, with 448 T20 appearances, will reach 450 caps early in IPL 2025, having retired from T20Is after leading India to victory in the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup.
Karthik has played 412 T20s and remains active in franchise cricket, having recently featured in the SA20 league for Paarl Royals. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli stands on the brink of his 400th T20 appearance, currently sitting at 399 T20 caps.
