Sanju Samson Wants To Change One Rule After Jos Buttler’s Exit, Says ‘If I Could…’ News24 –
Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson has opened up about his connection with IPL team mate Jos Buttler and how difficult it was to part ways with the English batter as he now will be a part of Gujarat Titans. Jos Buttler was a key part of Rajasthan Royals since 2018 but he was released ahead of IPL 2025 auction.
In an interview with JioHotstar, Samson reflected on how IPL is more than a competition as it has witnessed some of the strongest friendships between players. Buttler has played a vital part in RR’s success, he won the orange cap in IPL 2022.
Samson also opened up and expressed his frustration with IPL retention rules which puts a lot of limitations due to which the players are released. He said that this should be reconsidered and allow the team to keep core players.
“Jos Buttler is like an elder brother to me. We played together for seven years and formed a strong batting partnership. We always stayed in touch. It was really hard to see him go,” Samson said.
“When I took over as captain, he was my deputy. He helped me lead the team. Letting him go has been one of the hardest things for me,” Samson added.
“If I could change one thing in the IPL, I would change this rule. It has its benefits, but on a personal level, you lose friendships and relationships built over years,” Samson stated.
“It was hard for me, the owners, coaches, and support staff. Jos was family to us,” Samson concluded.
