Dubai: Apparently stung by the criticism of its own former cricketing greats like Wasim Akram, and Waqar Younus, the Pakistan Cricket Board seemed to have started facing-saving measures to wriggle out of the mess with regard to none of its representatives being present at the ICC Champions Trophy presentation ceremony here on Sunday.
According to reports, the PCB, which was the official host of the championship, has formally sought an explanation from the ICC, the international governing body of the sport, as to why the tournament director Sumair Ahmed was not included in the post-final presentation ceremony.
It may be mentioned here that Sumair, who is also the chief operating officer of the PCB, was in Dubai for the final in his capacity as tournament director and Pakistan’s representative at the final. Pakistan was the official host of the Champions Trophy.
Interestingly, the PCB was expecting the ICC to search for a replacement for PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who was scheduled to attend but had to cancel the visit to attend some high-level security meetings back in Pakistan. In a way, the PCB waited for the ICC to make the first move which obviously didn’t happen.
