India Getting ‘Unfair Advantage’? Mitchell Santner Makes BIG Claim Ahead Of Champions Trophy Final, Says ‘They’ve Played…’ News24 –
New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner accepted India’s familiarity with the conditions in Dubai but was assured of his side’s preparation before the Champions Trophy final on March 9. The Black Caps landed in Dubai on Thursday evening, all concentration on their big-ticket encounter with the hosts. Having played all their games in Dubai, India has a degree of home advantage, something that Santner accepted could be a plus for them. But he highlighted that New Zealand is prepared to adapt to the slow pitch and meet the challenge head-on.
India’s Familiarity With Dubai Pitch
“They’ve played all their games here in Dubai and know that surface. Obviously, the surface will dictate a little bit of how we want to operate. It might be a little bit slower than what we got in Lahore. It might be more of a scrap, but we’re down to scrap,” Santner said
“We’ve come against a good side. I think we’ll be better for the run we had the other day against them. We’ve had a bit of a roll on. Hopefully, it continues,” the left-arm spinner stated.
New Zealand Lost Against India In Group Stage
The two teams played against each other earlier in the group stage, where India won by 44 runs. Despite loss, Santner feels that experience has provided his team with valuable lessons that could prove decisive in the final.
A Lot Of Travelling For New Zealand
“It’s just the general feel of this tournament, moving around a lot. It’s all part of the challenge. I think we’ve been to every place here. Obviously, in Pakistan and Dubai. I think the guys understand it’s part of it these days. As long as you’re ready to go for the game, it’s fine,” he added.
New Zealand’s campaign in the Champions Trophy has seen the team travel regularly, with the team moving from Pakistan to Dubai for their last group-stage encounter, semi-final, and now the final. But Santner brushed aside concerns of fatigue, saying that the team has adjusted well to the demanding schedule.
